Australia through to semi-finals despite losing to Pakistan

Australia have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 despite a 32-run loss to Pakistan in their final Super Eights match at Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Australia topped their Super Eights pool regardless of the loss and will now face Group One second place finisher West Indies on Friday in Semi-Final Two at Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The men’s team will play immediately after the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars who will also take on West Indies in their women’s ICC World Twenty20 semi-final.

Tonight, however, Australia fell 32 runs short of Pakistan’s 6-149, although Mitch Starc snared 3-20 from his four overs, while Xavier Doherty, Pat Cummins and Shane Watson all took a wicket each.

In response, Australia’s chase faltered losing crucial wickets early and leaving too much to do at the end finishing on 7-117, passing the semi-final qualification mark thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 54 to Mike Hussey.
