Australian Cricketers’ Association President Greg Dyer has congratulated Steven Smith on his elevation to the Test vice-captaincy.
With Michael Clarke’s injured right hamstring expected to sideline him for the remainder of the Test Series against India, Smith is in line to skipper the side in Brisbane.
Brad Haddin, who led the Australian side on the final day of the Adelaide Test, will serve as Smith’s deputy at the ‘Gabba.
Mr Dyer said:
“On behalf of the members, Executive and staff of the Australian Cricketers’ Association, I would like to congratulate Steven Smith on being named Australia’s Test vice-captain.
“Steve has enjoyed a superb run of form over the past season or so in particular and has added a steeliness and consistency to his obvious skill. His maturity as a cricketer and as a leader has grown and it’s great to see him in line to take the reins of the team as Michael recovers from injury.
“We congratulate Steve on his appointment and wish him every success at the ‘Gabba whilst also sending Michael the best wishes of our members as he recuperates.”
