Cricketers stand-up to homophobia at Mardi Gras

17 March, 2015
Cricketers joined fellow athletes in the fight against homophobia when they marched at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on the weekend, which is now in its 37th year.

Southern Stars Alex Blackwell and Elyse Villani joined former Australian all-rounder Greg Matthews, fellow straight athletes Mike Pyke, Nick Smith, Matt Toouma, Lachlan Mitchell, Paul Langmack and Ryan Grant as well as LGBTI Olympians Matthew Mitcham and Daniel Kowalski in flying the flag for their respective sports.

The first three floats of the parade were dedicated to sport, highlighting the achievements of LGBTI athletes, while promoting an inclusive and diverse environment in sport.

Blackwell, Villani and Matthews all took to social media to provide colourful running diary of the night.
