SPOTLIGHT ON A PAST PLAYER – ACA MEMBER GRAEME VIMPANI

How long have you been a member of the ACA?

since its inception… right from the very beginning.  It’s amazing to see that change that has taken place over this period of time and one which I’m very proud to have been part of in a very small way.

What level of cricket did you play at, and name a memory from that time that resonates with you?

There are literally too many fond memories to list them all – but it’s hard to go past all the Drink Cards we organised and almost every pub and nightclub in Melbourne – other than the mandatory Souvlaki on the way home – it was a free night out on the town almost every night of the week and was one which I took full advantage of!  Seriously though - I’d say the fun times we had as a group – the victories – playing with and against some of the greatest players of all time – they were certainly all highlights….

In your time as an ACA member, what Member Programs have you used?

The ACA Masters games which are simply awesome – the Health Days which are really important – and many coaching appearances etc.  All incredibly valuable and each has a significant impact on various levels.  The Health and Wellbeing Grant also really helps with the Gym Membership and certainly is a welcome injection to cover those costs.

What value do you place on each program?

Incredible value – they all deliver so much to us as players and to the communities that we interact with – massive fan of each and every one of them (and the many others that the ACA does which I’m not immediately involved with).

The ACA advocate for its members, what are the areas /aspects of our advocacy that you can recall throughout the time?

I go back to 1997 when it all started – and the ACA was the catalyst for change.  The work that Tim May, James Erskine and the other senior Australian players – and players across the country – all did was phenomenal and one that we began to see the benefits of back then (ie: pay and conditions etc) – but which are truly bearing fruit today for the current crop of players.

Why is being an ACA Member important to you?

Because I believe in what the ACA has done and what it stands for. It’s great to have the female cricketers on board now – and that the players can genuinely speak with one voice – is fantastic and truly vital and should never be taken for granted.

DID YOU KNOW? ACA MEMBERS LOVE TO COACH!

The ACA believes in harnessing the skills, experience and knowledge of our Members.

Developing these skills and having ACA Members involved in coaching roles throughout various stages of the Australian cricket pathway is an important process in developing young talent.

The ACA is committed to the coaching development of our members through both the High Performance (level 3) and Representative (level 2) coach accreditation programs.

Each year the ACA allocates funding towards coach accreditation. The number of members interested will determine the level to which the ACA are able to subsidise any of your course fees.

Members can register for Representative Coaching (level 2) courses by talking with their States Coach Development Manager and/or registering on https://community.cricket.com.au/coach/courses

The High Performance (level 3) program is a 12-month course. Cricket Australia will open registrations in April each year with a 6-day residential component an important component of this course generally conducted in June at the National Cricket Centre.

Please contact Brendan Drew at bdrew@auscricket.com.au to discuss your interest in completing either Representative or High-Performance course.  These courses are extremely limited places.

The ACA have over 300 of its members listed as coaches, they have opportunities to work with kids, in clubs, in pathways and even through our Premier Cricket Programs throughout Australia. If coaching is of interest to you please contact the ACA for more information.
