David Moody becomes ACA Member 1300
This month the ACA reached its pre-season goal of 1300 members when Western Australian quick David Moody put pen to paper for the Association.
"The ACA is massively important to helping us achieve that work-life balance. I've only been a player for one year but already it has become very obvious I have a bunch of things I need assistance with, and the major one is uni," he said.
David has reaped the rewards of ACA membership, accessing an Education Grant for his Arts Degree at the University of Western Australia.
"I've had to rely a bit on the ACA with funding my course. This is important so you focus isn't just on cricket all the time," he said.
David made his first-class debut in season 2014-15, after some strong performances in the Futures League.
"I completely didn't expect it at the start of the season. My goal was to play a few Futures League games, so it was incredibly satisfying. Putting the cap on and playing Sheffield Shield was the ultimate achievement, really," he said.
David claimed seven wickets and staked his claim for a spot in an exceptionally strong Western Australian bowling lineup.
"I was going to stick to the basic stuff so the strike bowlers could take the wickets, but I ended having a fair bit to do with this, so that was really good," he said.
He puts his push through the ranks down to the competiveness from within the squad, which, he says, has created a great environment to learn from.
"You have all these blokes who are going through their development at different stages, so you can learn by watching them and seeing how they go about their business. It's a great privilege to be around that group and Adam Griffins, who is a great coach," he said.
After debuting last season, he's not in a rush to set any outcome goals, rather focusing on some process goals heading into season 2015-16.
"This season I'm aiming to get stronger. The pre-season hasn't quite started yet but I've been hitting the gym fairly often. As much as I can work on technique, none of that stuff really comes together unless you're strong enough to do it," he said.
