ACA supports changes to junior cricket

1 August, 2016
The Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) is excited to support Cricket Australia's change to junior cricket formats announced today.

The ACA remains committed to the ongoing development of cricket, with many of our members being directly involved in inspiring cricket's next generation.

Over the past three years, the ACA has supplied 300 past players for over 1800 coaching sessions as part of the ACA Game Development Program; which is funded by the players share of the 2015 Cricket World Cup Profits.

Clea Smith, National Manager of the Past Player Game and Personal Development Program, said that the Program is a great opportunity for ACA members.

"The ACA is confident that these changes will help capture the hearts and minds of our kids and help grow the game into the future," Smith said.

"We look forward to supporting the implementation of these changes through the Program in the coming years,"

The change in formats is being trialed this season across pilot regions and is set to engage a variety of changes to junior cricket including:

  • · Reduced pitch length
  • · Reduced boundaries
  • · Reduced players in the team/field
  • · Age appropriate equipment
  • · Revised playing conditions

Based on research conducted by Victoria University and Queensland University of Technology, the revised conditions resulted in three main outcomes:

  1. More accessible deliveries to hit
  2. More runs scored
  3. Greater engagement from fielders
