Jess Jonassen pulled the Southern Stars out of early trouble on the opening day of the Women's Ashes Test at Canterbury to allow the tourists to resume Day 2 at 8/268.
After a first-wicket stand of 66 between openers Nicole Bolton (36) and Elyse Villani (33), the visitors slipped to 5-99 after losing Meg Lanning (3), Ellyse Perry (5) and 200 gamer Alex Blackwell (7) all cheaply.
Alyssa Healy (39) and Jonassen (95no) helped steady the ship with a 77-run partnership to push the team’s total into three figures.
Jonassen and Kristen Beams (24no) will resume unbeaten at the crease tomorrow morning, after putting on a handy 62 runs late on the opening day.
