The Southern Stars recorded a 94-run win over Pakistan in their fourth and final group match of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in Sylhet, to progress to the semi-final stage of the tournament.
Batting first the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars piled on the runs thanks to an unbeaten knock of 90* from player-of-the-match Elyse Villani and a half-century from Captain Meg Lanning, taking their total to 2-185. Pakistan failed to reach the set target, finishing 9-91 from their 20 overs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat the Australian side wasted no time getting off the mark. Alyssa Healy (20) and Villani (90*) put on a 61-run partnership before Healy was bowled by Sania Khan (1-30) in the ninth over. Villani backed up with a 104-run partnership with Lanning (50) before combining with Ellyse Perry (12*) to push the total to 2-185.
Pakistan’s openers Javeria Khan (27) and Bismah Maroof (28) put on a 57-run partnership and were the only two batters to pass double figures. Ellyse Perry (3-12) and Sarah Coyte (3-14) each picked up three wickets, while Jess Jonassen (2-14) snared a pair.
