The Perth Scorchers have fallen narrowly short of victory to the Kolkata Knight Riders in a final-over thriller at Hyderabad, placing their hopes of a semi-final berth in serious doubt.
Adam Voges (71no) and Craig Simmons (39) looked to have given the Australian outfit the perfect platform as they rushed to 2-120 at the end of the 16th over.
Perth then lost 5-30 off the final 25 balls, leaving Voges, who managed to carry his bat, do the bulk of the work as the tail fell around him.
In repsonse, KKR looked shaky with a consant flow of wickets. Yasir Arafat (3-39) and the returning Nathan Coulter-Nile (2-41) doing most of the damage early on.
Suryakumar Yadav then took it upon himself, needing just 19 balls for his quickfire 43.
Piyush Chawla (5) was left with the daunting task of finding four runs off the final three balls but he did it in awesome fashion, hitting a four off Arafat's fourth ball of the final over to hand victory to the Knight Riders.
The Scorchers, who are now 1-1, must defeat the Chennai Super Kings and the Lahore Lions to have any chance of taking part in the semi-final stage.
