Women's cricket wins big in the 2018/19 schedule

30 April, 2018

ACA Chief Executive Alistair Nicholson has commented on the announcement today from Cricket Australia (CA) regarding the 2018/19 international schedule for the Australian summer.

The increased exposure of women's cricket was welcomed by Nicholson.

"On the back of last years' ground-breaking gender equitable MOU which the players fought for, it is right that our female team continues to get the exposure they deserve.

"We have some of the best players in the world and I think the fans will appreciate the opportunity to see them on one of the biggest TV days of the year being AFL Grand Final night.

"Going forward the players' are interested in exploring more long-form cricket opportunities, particularly after such a successful Ashes Test last year."

Speaking on the Australian men's fixture, Nicholson praised CA for ensuring the schedule doesn't have two Australian teams in different formats playing at the one time; as has occurred in the last few seasons.

"The players' place incredible value on representing their country.

"So, we thank CA for hearing the players' call for change.

"Whenever an Australian team is on the park, we should have the best players representing our country."

Nicholson also talked about the significant change in the look of the Australian set-up.
"With the pending announcement of a new coach, a new Test Captain in Tim and two new broadcasters, there will be a lot of interest in the summer ahead."
